Last week was a busy, busy week for the Buffaloes! All of our athletic teams were competing somewhere. They went as far east as Kiowa, as far west as Lakin, as far south as Canadian, TX, and as close as our local golf course!
The MHS C-Team volleyball girls traveled to Greensburg for their first meet of the season. The girls were able to score a win against Kiowa County in 2 straight; 25-22, 25-23. They fell to Skyline in two with scores of 19-25 and 12-25. The JV and Varsity girls took to the courts in Lakin on Tuesday. The varsity team competed well against Lakin, winning in three games: 28-26, 11-25, 25-21. Against Holcomb the girls played well, but lost in a tight match with scores of 21-25, 25-21, 21-25. The JV girls fought hard but were not able to come home with a win, dropping both matches. Against Lakin they were 13-25 and 16-25, and against Holcomb the girls were 18-25 and 12-25.
The varsity tennis girls competed in Kiowa Thursday. Allissa Harshberger played 1S and placed 3rd with a record of 2-2. Landry Cordes and Carlotta Stern went 3-1, earning 2nd in the 1D section. Devenie Borth competed at 2S. She brought home the gold with a 4-0 record. Georgia Piteo and Hope Harshberger finished in 4th place, going 1-3 in the 2D section.
The MHS Cross Country team performed well at their first meet of the season. The boys placed 3rd as a team. Medaling for the Meade team were Cole Gardiner (Ashland) at 3rd, followed by Gunner Cordes taking 6th place. Rounding out the team was Sean Luskey in 27th, Ben Thompson in 31st, Eric Klotz in 41st, Matt Klassen in 58th and Clayton Padgett in 68th. Our girls took 2nd place overall. Josie Sims came in at 12th, followed closely by Michaela Golliher in 14th place. Tatum Hansen, new to the sport, earned her first medal by earning the 16th spot. Also, finishing for Lady Buffaloes was Amber Koons in 27th and Jessica Thompson in 38th.
Our MJH Buffalo teams started the year off in a winning fashion. Both the Lady Buffalo A-Team and B-Team Volleyball girls won their matches in just two games each. The varsity team won by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and the JV team scores were 25-14, 25-11. The MJH Football team also put a tally in the win column by defeating Satanta by a score of 44-28.
Our MHS Buffaloes took the field for their season opener in Canadian, TX. It was a hard-fought game, but unfortunately the Buffaloes could not pull off a victory. The game ended with a final score of 6-36.
