Meade District Encourages Patrons to Contact Legislators

The Meade Board of Education authorized a "sample" letter be made available to parents and community members which could be used to contact Kansas Legislators concerning the drastic cuts in educational funding. The Meade School District has already lost $374,690 in the General Fund Budget. This is close to a 9.5% loss. If nothing is done to stop cuts for next year the district will lose another $254,540 if enrollment stays exactly the same. This would be close to a total cut of 16% in the General Fund Budget.
The "Sample Letter to Legislators" has been provided on the district website to encourage patrons of Meade to contact area legislators or legislators across the state. Please feel free to download the letter, make changes, and email it or send it to legislators. Writing a personal letter rather than just signing a sample letter is much more effective with legislators. Listed below is a link to all the email addresses for the Kansas House and Senate. In addition the Capitol addresses for area legislators Melvin Neufeld, Representative, and Tim Huelskamp, Senator are listed below.
Grass roots support for educational funding is important as schools are facing the largest cuts in several generations. If drastic cuts continue, the quality of education in Meade and across the state will be greatly diminished because schools will be forced to make additional budget cuts.
