Living History - Our 8th grade students and the LTRC Residents
Age is…wisdom, if one has lived one's life properly.
-- Miriam Makeba
With gratefulness our 8th grade class gained not only wisdom, but meaningful relationships from residents at the Lone Tree Retirement Center. On three different occasions the 8th graders spent time interviewing and getting to know some residents. They not only learned about their history, but also spent time just enjoying one another's company. After the interviews were complete the 8th grade students created slide shows telling the story of their residents' lives. The Living History project was culminated with one last visit to the LTRC when the students presented their slide shows for the residents to enjoy.
The students valued the opportunity to learn what life was like for these residents as they grew up in a different era and how their circumstances shaped their journeys. They also took this as an opportunity to thank the residents for their contribution in making life in our nation what it is today, one of freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
We would like to thank the residents and staff at LTRC for giving us the opportunity to learn and grow through this experience.
